We read in Revelation 14:8 about the second angel's message announcing that, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city (Rome), because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication". Babylon means confusion. The wine is false doctrine. Her fornication is that she would not be true to God's word and will. She commits spiritual adultery, substituting man made doctrines for Biblical doctrines.

In Revelation 17:1,2
"1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters,
2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”", God uses strong language as He calls her a great whore, and a mother of harlots in verse 5
"5 And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

These are her daughters who came out of her and continued the apostasy, embracing and teaching many of the false doctrines. God's people are still in these Catholic and Protestant denominations as well as other religions of the world. So in Revelation 18:4 He gives the call to His people to, "COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE". It's a pleading call and those who hear His voice will come out.

Paul knew what was nailed to the cross, but when he spoke of God's Ten Commandment law he clearly states that he would not have known sin but by the law. He also sates we establish the law.
